Baseball: St. Michael’s Downs Norwich, 15-4

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Two-run homers by Bryan Geary and Jacob Begnoche along with a seven-run ninth inning helped St. Michael's College to a 15-4 non-conference baseball victory over Norwich University Thursday, April 19, at Garrity Field. The Purple Knights pounded out 20 hits, including six that went for extra-bases, in improving to 9-20 on the season.  

Nicky Elderton went 4-for-5 with a triple, a double, one RBI and three runs scored for SMC. Teammate Nick Nelson added four hits of his own to round out the team's top offensive performers on the day.

Andrew Kelley went six innings in picking up his second win of the year for the Knights. The lefty allowed one run on seven hits while striking out 10 and walking three.

Senior first baseman Seth Knihtila (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont Regional) led Norwich (4-29) at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Sophomore Devin Cilley (Tunbridge, Vt./South Royalton) battled through 6.2 innings for the Cadets, giving up six earned runs on seven hits. He struck out four and walked three.

Norwich closes out the regular season this weekend when they host Emerson and Suffolk for conference doubleheaders. Game one versus Emerson is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 21.
