Baseball: Shimkus, Gendron, Shearer honored by GNAC

BOSTON – The Norwich University baseball team had three players named All-Conference by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) as announced by league officials on Monday.

Junior outfielder Dustin Shimkus (Collinsville, Ill.) earned Second Team All-Conference honors for the second straight season after leading the Cadets in hits (36), doubles (20), home runs (two), RBIs (19), and slugging percentage (.525).

Shimkus reached the 100-career-hits benchmark earlier this season on April 15 in a doubleheader with Anna Maria.

Sophomore designated hitter Nicholas Gendron (Alstead, N.H.) and senior utility player Corey Shearer (Montague, Mass.) joined Shimkus in postseason award recognition with each being named GNAC Third Team All-Conference.

Gendron led the club with a .312 batting average and ranked second in RBIs with 16. Shearer posted a .277 batting average with six doubles, three triples, one home run and 12 RBIs.

Senior infielder Joe Sleeman (Rochester, N.Y.) was Norwich's representative on the GNAC Sportsmanship Team. Sleeman wrapped up his career with team-leading 22 runs and seven stolen bases. He also hit .261 and had eight RBIs.

Norwich finished the season with a 4-33 overall record and a 1-15 mark in GNAC play.
